“Housing and Income Inequality - A Decomposition Analysis of non-cash Income from Imputed Rents” with Emanuel List (Vienna University of Economics and Business)

The main contribution of this paper is an encompassing analysis of the nexus between housing and income inequality among European countries, which is realised by estimating non-cash income from imputed rents, using microdata from the HFCS and the capital market approach. The method enables to set up a consistent framework for every single country and hence we can assemble comparable statistics which allow for a valid inter-country comparison. Furthermore, we apply techniques from the decomposition literature to gain further insights on cross-country differences and the drivers of inequality.
